What is a stand-up bed?
Section 33 of Book V of the Social Code (SGB V) sets out the statutory entitlement to the provision of assistive devices, whilst Section 40 of Book XI of the Social Code (SGB XI) covers care aids and corrective actions to improve the home environment, with the aim of facilitating care at home or enabling people to lead as independent a life as possible.
Rotadorm stand-up and rotating care beds have medical aid codes issued by health and long-term care insurance funds. They are medical aids which can help patients to participate fully in their environment once again and minimise the physical strain on both patients and carers.
Beds designed for people with disabilities, featuring a sitting and stand-up function, are infinitely adjustable by motor. The bed is fitted with a multi-position adjustable lying surface, with separate adjustment options for the head and foot sections. Castors are fitted to allow the bed to be moved. The bed can be adjusted from the lying position into a forward-facing, armchair-like sitting position, which allows the patient to get up starting from the seated position.
The beds in the Rotadorm range comply with the strict requirements of the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) 2017/745.

Who is this type of bed suitable for?
The Rotadorm stand-up and rotating care bed is indicated for all conditions or disabilities in which the patient, due to joint problems, reduced muscle strength or pain, is unable to perform the sequence of movements involved in standing up to sit down (transferring to a wheelchair) – and vice versa – with or without assistance, or where the carer is subjected to significant physical strain.
This applies in particular to the following clinical conditions:
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke
This type of support may also be appropriate for other conditions that limit a person’s ability to stand or get up – the specific indication is determined by the treating doctor.
What are aid numbers?
Aid numbers are used to define prescribable and subsidised aids with a ten-digit item number. The basis for this is the aid directory of the GKV (National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds – Germany). The aid number clearly identifies the registered product in order to prevent confusion.
Through more careful quality testing, in which the functionality, safety, indication-related requirements and medical benefits of the device have been proven, the product is included in the GKV’s medical aids directory with the corresponding medical aid number. The number facilitates processing and communication with the health insurance company.
